Mangawhai Cliffs Walkway is located right on the beach at Mangawhai Heads a popular destination for many people the walk takes in some of the best views around around the Mangawhai area, on a clear summers day you can see from the top of the coromandel peninsula all the way up to Whangarai Heads, access to the track is at the end of Wintle st which takes you out to the Mangawhai surf life saving club, turn left when you are on the beach and walk along the beach for 500 or so meters untill you see the sign.
The first section of the Mangawhai Cliffs Walkway is steep with formed steps that make the accent a little easier, then the track levels out to a more easier grade when you start to walk along the cliff face you will see Taranga island, Lady Alice and Whatupuke island directly out in front of you and Great Barrier, Little Barrier and also the Mokohinou islands way off in the distance if the viability is good.
The track runs almost along side a paper road here and joins up with Breamtail rd towards the end however this road is private so keep to the track, the walk is mostly level and winds around the cliffs with stunning views down to the beach and across the ocean and islands.
Around one hour of walking you will arrive at the steps these steps take you down to the cove at the end of the walkway and to a beautiful stretch of sandy beach, you can walk back to the carpark at beach level or return back up the steps and return along the walkway, the beach is only accessable a few hours each side of low tide.
The Mangawhai Cliffs Walkway is suitable for all the family the only hard sections is the climb to the top and the decent down to the beach at the end of the track otherwise the walk is easy on a clear day the views to the outer islands and open ocean are stunning so take the camera.
